Gameplay Elements (and such)
Here's some things about the game you may be wondering about, in Q and A form. PS: Prepare for the possibility of vague answers.
Q: Is it a standalone?
A: Yes. This is not a project where I make characters to be downloaded at will at the cost of my lost sanity, when I'm finished it will be a full fledged game, with character stories, endings, everything.
There are two big reasons for this. Arcade Mode and character interaction. And let's face it, when people put in MUGEN characters from two totally different arcade games that weren't meant to interact, a lot of moves are lost in translation (or maybe transition in this case). I've got too many special moves, side effects and sight gags that'd go to waste that way. And I'm ALL about cartoon silliness.
Q: What's the name of the game?
A: I haven't the foggiest idea.
Q: What is it about?
A: This may actually serve as some delightful news. There is no tournament to prove who's the best or some collective bad guy everyone has to beat (M.Bison, Master Hand, etc). The Arcade Mode is the story mode, and each character has their own reason for doing something, therefore each character's last boss is someone else, even if that person seems like a good guy (hint: Kirby is someone else's last boss). There may be a lot of shared final bosses, but the intent for fighting them is different for every character. This is the reason why this game works best as a standalone.
Q:What's the gameplay like?
A: The game will probably play like Vampire Hunter/Savior when I get through with it. If you're not familiar, it's like any other fighting game but it started the air combos commonly used today, the ability to strike when others are down, etc.
I'm debating whether to go with rounds like a traditional game, or Vampire Savior's method of a Damage Gauge (one round, two life points per character). I'm leaning towards Savior if only because I like the faster pace.
Q: How many characters are in the game total?
A: 30.
Q: How many are finished?
A: As of now, zero.
Q: How many are in the works?
A: As of now, 16, but some characters are much further along than others.
Q: Who are the charcters?
A: Nice try. However, I'm going to give you a dose of reality that honestly shouldn't come as a surprise to you (you may want to sit down for it anyway). Since the concept was originally created with who I (and in some cases my friend Jared) wanted to see in a game, you can expect the charcters to be people I like. Now, granted many people may like the same characters, but if in the case that you're going to whine about someone not being represented, or someone being over represented, open up MSPaint/Photoshop, download MUGEN, and get busy.
Hate to be blunt, but I'm serious.
A lot of those characters are within my big 3 favorite series, Kirby, Pokemon, and MOTHER. I would certainly hope you like one of those three, because the other reps don't have too many characters.
However, and I will say this now, there are some strict rules regarding Pokemon. Firstly, no generic representive Pokemon. Each Poke fighter is an actual character, like I'd use Jigglypuff from the anime with a marker/mic than just a random Jigglypuff (Jigglypuff is NOT in the game). This is because generics are hard to work with, they have no reason to fight, and this absolutely does not bode well with Arcade (story) mode. Secondly, no doubles. There won't be two Wobbuffet, say like Jessie's and BKi's. PS: Wobbuffet isn't in this game either. Finally, only one representative per evolutionary line. So that means nothing like Kirlia and Gardevoir. Oh, BTW, they aren't in the game either. And just to squash this theory, neither is Mawile.
Q: How many series are represented?
A: Within playables, 10. However, I'm going to (if I can) cameo a lot more through other means.
Q: What will the stages be like?
A:
Because of the specifics of the characters, there's a lot of unique stages, so there won't be many preused ones, although there will be a few. Let's face it, I love War Agony (Bulleta's stage) and it's BGM. So there you go, I let you in on a stage.
Q: Anything more you can tell me about character interaction?
A: Sure, why not? The game is centered around the characters, but it isn't enough to just have them fight each other in some bland way. There are a lot of things that have an effect. Some of these things depend on gameplay set up, that is, are you playing alone or on teams? Every character has a stage intro (Kirby flies in on a Warp Star, for example), and some characters have a more involved intro if they're the final boss. So long as I have anything to say about it, characters intros may change depending on who you are fighting against, or who you're teamed up with. Beyond that, there are many victory poses, but these also change if you are teamed up or take out a specific character that your fighter may have a connection to (or not). I feel that characters should be more than graphic image, but should have a life of their own. Interaction helps this.
There's more. I believe that in some fighting games, at least I know for sure in Vampire, there are three standard ways of taking special damage:
Damage by fire-

Damage by freezing-

Damage by electrocution-

In more involved games, though, characters may have special attacks, or more importantly EX moves that effect the other characters in more than just "show hit animation". For example, using Vampire Savior yet again, an EX of the character Q-Bee allows her to send out a formation of bees from a hive. If it connects, a lot more bees come out to sting the opponent, and when it's over, the character looks really bloated and lumpy, with stingers all over them. Very cartoony and equally amusing. There's many more like this, such as a the "girlifying" Midnight Bliss, which is probably fan service but still more humourous than anything.
Well, characters do the same, here. In fact, let me introduce another character to you. Mr. Game and Watch:
Mr. Game & Watch has Judgement, a move that is said to have some odd effects... however, in this game, the effects are even stranger. What could happen? Well, if you use this move on an opponent, as it cycles through numbers, you can get transgendering effects just like Midnight Bliss.

Oh Kirby. Something just isn't right.
Much like V.Savior, transgendering usually turns people into a cute girl (or not), and in some cases it's really silly, usually the case if the character is already female, that or it just gets more over the top. It's biased in that no one gets turned into a guy, but considering the market, who really wants that? Well here, it's more like "girlifying" plus personification, unless the character is human already. However, this isn't always the case, and some characters just turn out really silly.
Don't worry, though, there are many unique attacks that will do things that Vampire didn't originate, I'm not going to take everything from the game. What will the effects be? You'll have to find out!
Q: Will this game ever be finished?
A: I am very strong willed, and not a lot I do ever dies out, but I am always busy. So the answer to that is yes, unless God forbid I don't live to see tomorrow, that is.
Q: When will it be finished?
A: I'm going to tell you straight up, it may take years. However, it's also conditional. I won't upload this game before both MOTHER 3's fan translation (or official release, whichever) comes out, and I've at least gotten everyone halfway through Poke Tales, the mid series. Spoilers are abound and I can't be held responsible for that, however I can be decent and give everyone an opportunity NOT to be spoiled by letting these things happen first (unlike Smash, but then again everyone in Japan played M3 and the Pokemon are generic).
So even if I happen to finish earlier than those things happening (hah, not likely), I still wouldn't get it up beforehand.
Q: Will you release a demo?
A: No. Official companies wouldn't, so I don't expect to, either. If I feel something is worth showing, you can find it in the media section.
