Kirby's Adventures

The first Kirby series I created back in 1995 was known as Kirby's Adventures. It all begins with Kirby and his friends, Kine, Coo, and Rick eating at Kirby's fast food addiction, Taco Mail (=P). King Dedede kidnaps the gang, locks em up in a cage and that cage is on a conveyor belt. They escape, beat Dedede up, the end. Doesn't make sense, does it? Well, granted this is kind of a "pilot episode" were I just mess around, but the fact that stuff doesn't add up is about the only consistancy this Kirby series (and others to follow) has. That and characters.
Kirby's Adventures takes place in it's time, the Dream Land to Dream Land 2 era, including everything in between. This DOES include side games. The general basis of the comic was following Kirby around on some of the things he does on a regular basis, but trouble's always brewing with King Dedede and his cronies. Everything takes place in Dream Land, and it includes all the familiar areas and then some. Also introduced in the series are various puffball friends and family members of Kirby.
I let a lot of my creativity shine here, creating many many original characters. Included are Kirby's main puffball buddies, Katie, Kenneth and Melvin. Each of them are actually based off of friends I had in real life, as well as other properties. Katie used to be Kirby's love interest, but Kirby's character usually makes him appear that he'd rather just be friends with everybody (even in Kirby 64 up to the last part), if not oblivious. Melvin was also based a bit from a Sailor Moon character with the same name. =P Some reoccuring family members include Kirby's uncle, Jake, as the Wild West is a favorite theme of mine, Nancy, Kirby's baby cousin who he had to babysit a few times, and his Aunt Matilda, who was a kind hearted, apparently weathly soul.
Enemies were also in the mix, too. Tempess and Kaboola II are frequently seen, Tempess being related to Kracko (and meaner), and Kaboola II being the successor of Kaboola after she was destroyed. Minor enemies were created by the dozens, some of which would later be used (indirectly) by HAL (bosses too). Granted, a lot of my ideas were obvious so it's not really surprising, although sometimes unnerving (especially when it leaves me with nothing =( ).
As for the official guys, even I gave them interesting personalities that most probably wouldn't have thought of. Kirby's pretty faithful to his official self, through and through, except that he's often suspicious of Dedede and gets annoyed by idiocy quickly since it seems to surround him daily.
Rick is both energetic and lazy, the sort who wants to do anything that isn't boring or hard. He's also a goofball, intentionally getting on people's nerves and telling jokes. Despite this, he isn't stupid. He is, however, drawn in to seemingly moronic stuff.
While most people would probably equate Coo to being "wise as an owl", I wrote that off entirely. He's somewhat of a hot head who has more strength than brains, is conceited, and thinks he's God's gift to women. A modern day equivalent would be like Johnny Bravo. He also has a love-hate relationship with Rick. Sometimes he can't stand him for absolutely no reason at all, and other times they get along like good friends.
Kine, looking the most vacant, became the genius! How's that for flipping the script? His intellect is usually shown in what he says, though, as he usually stands as the voice of reason. He also messes around in his own lab. Like Kirby, he's pretty low tolerant of stupidity, even though Rick is his best friend. However, when Rick, Kine and Coo get together, they all tend to act like clowns.
Dedede is a goofball as well, but actually isn't that smart. He complains about Kirby's friends being punks (Kirby and friends are all kids here), and wants them dead or exiled or something. He pretty much comes up with half baked schemes that you just KNOW won't work. Gordo, his indifferent right hand man, doesn't like Dedede at all and would love to get fired. Waddle Dee, his left hand man, is a coward who's allergic to bees. Waddle Dee's cousin, Waddle Doo, often questions Dedede's sanity like Gordo, and is quite protective of Waddle Dee. Poppy Bros Sr. is also close to Dedede, except that he usually works on his own will, more or less crashing parties and bothering people just for the sake of being annoying. He's also crazy. Bronto Burt is a typical bully, picking on those weaker than him, but his bark is much worse than his bite.
Kirby's Adventures hosts quite a few running gags, such as referring to Dedede as a duck (knowing he isn't), Kracko disturbingly kissing up to Dedede, and Kirby and friends bashing holes into Castle Dedede when they arrive by Warpstar (Dedede wishes they'd just use the door).
The series ended in a final battle between Kirby and King Dedede, probably being the most serious comic in the series. This marked comic #50, and the end of the Dedede era. Although I never continued to the Dark Matter era proper, this is one of the FEW series that has ever come to an official close.
After some deciding, Kirby's Adventures is undergoing my now trademark revamping, which means now you'll get a chance to read Kirby's Adventures yourself without the crude, hard-to-readness of the originals. Check out the comic series section for more!
Kirby's 1½ Adventures
Updated: 6/23/08
After a bit of a break from Kirby comics, I decide to reenter the comic scene. Because of my (still standing) favoritism to the Dream Land - Dream Land 2 era (although I believe all games up to and including Dream Land 3 were the best), instead of starting the Rainbow Islands saga that Kirby's Adventures left sorta open, I decided to make MORE stories for Kirby's Adventures, filling in with extra events. This wasn't a new series proper, so I just called it Kirby's 1½ Adventures, the 1½ meaning between Dream Land 1 and 2.
The series was pretty much consistant, but added in a couple of things. For one, a lot more character development for already existing characters, as opposed to adding new characters. Today, I'm still apprehensive about making new characters rather than just using all the old ones I have.
Another thing was that Dedede was less of a focus this time around, and the stories often involved other events happening to Kirby instead, even if it was his own fault!
Characters sort of changed in time. Kine got smarter, Dedede got stupider (it's stated that he suffered one too many blows to the head by Kirby), and Coo tended to take on some rather ghetto-fabulous attributes (considering the High School I went to, it really rubbed off). Kirby grows even MORE impatient with Dedede, blowing him off half the time.
Running gags from the previous series are still around, along with new ones. The big ones here are Castle Dedede being destroyed almost every time it's involved. The second gag plays on the first, with Castle Dedede being practically inconsistant in design every time it's rebuilt (in one example, they could only afford to build the castle out of Legos). The destruction gag is even seen in some of the GIFs here, such as Missile Crisis and Vs. Mecha Dedede.
Because of the general fancy-free nature this particular series had, Kirby's 1½ Adventures stands as my personal favorite Kirby series. This is why I can't seemingly leave this era in favor of recent games like Kirby & the Amazing Mirror. Most everything I do with Kirby is STILL based on K1.5A! However, the series has been on a hiatus ever since I transfered to a University.
Along with Kirby's Adventures recieving remakes, I would expect the 1.5 series to follow suit, especially since they're technically the same series (this one's just expanded). However, since the K1.5A series was done much later, it might be uploaded as is, since it's not as hard to read or see. Either way, you'll be able to read these eventually.
