About Creative Worlds:
Creative Worlds was started in January 2005, mainly as a site to display any work I had done that was otherwise sitting around on my hard drive. Previous to this, I had displayed art and animated work on a forum, and it was pretty well recieved. I decided to gather enough nerve to build a site, and in March 2005, Creative Worlds went live.

Today, the site hasn't changed much in principle. It is my personal fan site that reflects characters that I enjoy, and the things that I enjoy doing. Because it's not a professional site, I don't really expect to put any portfolio worthy stuff here. I'll end up making a new site for that.

Site Content:
I usually try different things, usually because I'm bored and consistancy is boring. There are a few things that do seem to hold constant, however:

- My style of drawing is usually a reflection of the official style, unless I grow really comfortable with a specific character.
- I have a preference for all things cute, and therefore I tend to draw in a cute style habitually (it's almost automatic). Sometimes it goes as far as making characters cuter than they actually are.
- Nothing is ever realistic, in terms of the artistic definition. I don't like realism. The only exception may be a background, but I'm not so good at those.
- A good majority of my work is PG or below. I only really step beyond this for cartoon violence, and even then it's a general silly type, Itchy and Scratchy violence at worst. I find swearing inappropriate (and a poor substitute for wit, or even standard vocabulary), nor do I use suggestive themes (usually dodgy at worst). However, all 3 areas may be breached depending on the series, as it has been done before.
- I can't stop drawing female characters. =P I swear, look at the ratio of male to female characters...

Redistribution:
Frankly, you guys can save and redistribute and use whatever as avatars or something until the cows come home. I just have two guidelines:

- Give credit where credit is due. When you redistribute, be decent enough to say "Hey, I got this from Creative Worlds!" and shoot a link back to me. If you found something of mine and didn't know where it came from (prior to finding this site), you're no longer exempt (as you have now found the site). If English isn't your first language... well that's another issue entirely.
- Don't edit anything. Bad enough you're probably posing something of mine off as yours, but now you're just being disrespectful. Really, did your parents teach you anything?

Goes without saying, people. I don't owe anybody anything, so remember it's a privelege, not a right.

Disclaimer: Just a note to all big websites and forums and what not, I didn't tell anyone to make fads out of anything I've done, so I can't be blamed. Heck, I get annoyed with gif fads, too. We'll just have to ride it out...

Q. When did you start animating?
Depends. If counting flip books, it had to be since I was in second grade or so. If using a digital medium, however, probably since Sophmore year in High School. I was inspired by flash cartoons made by GyphonTen at Kirby's Rainbow Resort during that time. It was at that point where I knew I had to get Flash.

I seriously got into it when I was disappointed with the Kirby anime, as Hoshi NOT Kirby would prove. Otherwise Flash was more or less another art program. It also marked the start of my "Do it Yourself" philosophy, which pretty much everything on this site is based upon.

Q. How did you learn to animate?
Flipbooks and watching too many cartoons. I guess I was really enticed by the skip frame option on a VCR remote a long time ago, but by watching cartoon movement (and more advanced movements on a frame by frame basis watching a tape), I picked up on it myself. Another thing that helped? Spriting. If you're planning on making sprites for games, you have to make actions on a frame by frame basis (well, you don't, but then you get a crude game). I made a lot of fan games during the early High School years, too.

Q. What programs do you use to animate?
For vector GIFs and SWF animations:
Macromedia Flash
For raster/pixel GIFs:
EasyToon

Q. How did you learn to draw so well?
Um, flattering though that may be, I don't know. It's actually good? I can tell you, though, that it took lots and lots of practice. As you can see in some of my old art found in Series Information, I've improved by a lot.

I'll also mention that tutorials help a lot, depending on the tutorial. I've only used one for the framework of a human before, but honestly I draw things as I see it, as opposed to using guides, lines, 4+ rectangles and all that... it's messy and I've never been taught to draw this way. It's all freestyle from start to finish. So while I might not benefit from a "draw 3 circles arm length" tutorial, I suggest that you give them a shot, or look for the ones that are a bit more freestyle.

Q. Can you make (me) a...
No.

Q. Do you take commissions?
I can't guarantee it, it depends on how busy I am at the time. However, if you really want something, you have to pay for it. I will only do art and comics, though. Animation's too time comsuming, and I'd charge you an arm and a leg for it (even if it was 2 seconds).

Rates and Guidelines:
Black and White Drawing = $5
Color Drawing = $7
Color Drawing w/ BG = $10+, depending on complexity.

Black and White Comic = $7
Color Comic = $10
Color Comic w/ BG = $15+, depending on complexity.

- Rates are not fixed, and may be raised or lowered depending on complexity. However, they will usually be the above.
- Comics rates are for 4 Panel comics only. If you want a page style comic, discuss it with me and we may work something out.
- I have the right to turn down any request at all times, prior to payment.
- If something comes up and the job cannot be finished, I will refund you (this is after payment).
- Use better judgement about your requests. Don't ask for anything tasteless or lewd, excessively graphic or dirty. Also, don't ask for anything excessively complex. Example: A large realistic Chinese dragon with detail on each and every scale. I guarantee you I won't do it.

About myself: (Updated Dec 24, 2007)

Name: Patrick

Age: 20-something.

Gender: Male

Religion: Christian

Likes: Family, friends, video games, doodling, visualizing, creating, Nido Pokemon,Winter, Christmas season (I love the decorations in the city, sue me), positivity, I'm often inspired by city and modern life, Nido Pokemon, cute stuff, cute characters, female characters, cute female characters (sad XP). I also can't stress Nido Pokemon enough. You would think I was kidding.

Dislikes/Upset By: Swearing, dishonesty, lewdness (when it gets to be too much) "extreme" marketing, wasting time, negativity, disregard of common decency, people who never make the effort to rise above the rut they are in, those who have no dreams.

In some cases, I realize I may not be helping. My dislikes typically speak for when I'm in a real life situation, not watching/reading/doing anything scripted. That said, too much distastefulness is still a turn off.

Favorite Game Series: Kirby, MOTHER, Pokemon (though I dislike the trainer/battle games), Sonic (aside from the Rushes, pretty much Sonic Adventure 2 and prior), Bomberman, Panel de Pon (only when it's story based, otherwise it's not a series), Vampire/Darkstalkers, Mega Man (pretty much only classic), Twinbee, Gradius, Parodius, Wario Ware, Harvest Moon, Legend of Stafy, Yoshi (sort of), and many single title games.

Favorite Character:
Official - Kirby.
Original Character from existing license - Mrs. Nidorina.
Original Character I created - That stays with me.

Favorite TV Shows: Fraiser, Seinfield, Malcolm In the Middle, King of Queens, Bernie Mac Show, The Simpsons, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, cartoons of the "Golden Age", Everybody Hates Chris, George Lopez, The Three Stooges, Svengoolie (Chicago area only(?)). Note that it's pretty much all comedies.

(Where I live, the local Chicago station WCIU plays a majority of these. Seriously, my TV barely leaves this station, if I'm even watching TV.)

Favorite Music: Game, Classical, Jazz (smooth and otherwise), Swing, Contemporary/Inspirational, some Gospel, I have a preference for music from early to mid 90's back to the days of ragtime.

Favorite Song/Artist: For games, I would say Normal Mode from Kirby's Star Stacker (Game Boy) and the Complete Works/Power Fighters arrangement of Dive Man's stage. For non game, I'm partial to Bebe & Cece Winans when they were a duo. I like Ben Tankard as well, nice instrumentalist.
My favorite soundtrack overall is probably MOTHER3i, MOTHER (the vocal soundtrack) or Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius ~ Forever With Me.

Quotes I live by:

  • If you strip a cartoon of its fun and imagination, you strip a cartoon of its life.
  • If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.
  • An idle mind is the devil's workshop.
  • All who have accomplished great things have had a great aim, have fixed their gaze on a goal which was high, one which sometimes seemed impossible.

And many more...

Contact information:

I enjoy good communication! You can always e-mail me at patkdeb@gmail.com, or attempt to IM me at ceruleansunfish using AOL. I would suggest email, but whatever works best.

Either way, I won't bite, and I read and try to respond to all decent emails (unless they are questions answered here). If you want to chat, I'm good for that too, people who take time to write me are never a bother, so it's okay. =)

However, there's always something...

I'm going to let you know up front that I don't appreciate being sent mail or messaged as an afterthought. If you have no real intention to follow conversational standards, or at least pretend like it, take your business elsewhere.

Here's examples of what not to do:

-Do NOT send a one sentence email (worse yet, one sentence fragment) asking about where an animation is, or what song I used in an animation. I'm not a bloody torrent site.
-Do NOT send a sentence (fragment) mail requesting something. If you want it, pay for it. If you have ideas, I welcome them, but use good judgement.
-Do NOT message me for the stupidest reasons. That is, no avatar testing or whatever.
-If you can avoid it, please don't bother me about animation tips just to get animation tips, with absolutely no regard for conversational skills. I'm not a faceless tutorial.

Here's things that should be common sense:
-DO use good conversational skills. Say hello and goodbye, or at least just hello. You should know how to write a letter.
-Be courteous. Please and thank you go a long way.
-Actually spend some time writing an email. At least a few sentences. If you can't find the time to bother writing it, I can't find the time to bother reading it.*

This isn't a big problem. Most people haven't violated any communcation standards, but I get some folks... this oughta clear things up 100%. Remember, treat others the way you would like to be treated. I'm a person, not an entity.

*An exception could be for submissions, since I lack any forms and all that's really required is a description.
